Afterpay FAQs
How does Afterpay work?
With Afterpay, you can pay for your LED neon signs in 4 equal installments over 6 weeks without any interest. We receive full payment upfront from Afterpay on your behalf. You pay the first installment of 25% at the time of purchase, and the remaining three installments are automatically deducted from your debit or credit card every two weeks.
How do I set up an Afterpay account?
Setting up an Afterpay account is easy. Download the Afterpay app or sign up on their website or during checkout at participating retailers. You must be over 18, provide personal information, and link a valid debit or credit card. Afterpay verifies your identity electronically for quick setup. When making a purchase, choose Afterpay as your payment method. Each purchase goes through an approval process based on factors like available funds and repayment history.
Is using Afterpay bad for my credit score?
In Australia, joining Afterpay is fast and free without a credit check. New customers start with a low spending limit, which can increase with on-time payments. Depending on various factors, a credit check may be conducted for higher spending limits. Missing a payment doesn't negatively impact your credit score as Afterpay focuses on responsible spending by pausing your account if a payment is missed.
Are there any fees for using Afterpay?
Afterpay is free when you pay on time. There are no hidden or annual fees and no interest charges, unlike most credit cards. If you miss a payment, a late fee is charged but capped at 25% of the purchase price or $68, whichever is less. Afterpay also offers a Plus subscription for $9.99 a month with additional benefits. Full terms are available on the Afterpay website.
What happens if I miss a payment?
If you miss a payment, contact Afterpay as soon as possible to discuss your options. Late fees apply, but Afterpay sends reminders to help you avoid this. Missing payments result in a paused account and reduced spending limit. Late payments also affect eligibility for the Pulse Rewards loyalty program. These measures are designed to encourage responsible spending.
How much are the late fees?
Late fees are capped at 25% of the order price, up to a maximum of $68 per order. For orders $40 and above, an initial $10 late fee is charged, with an additional fee of up to $7 if unpaid after seven days. For orders under $40, a maximum $10 late fee applies. Afterpay pauses your account until the balance is paid to prevent further missed payments.
How does Afterpay make money?
Afterpay charges a fee to merchants for each transaction, which is the main source of revenue. Additionally, monthly fees apply to Afterpay Plus subscribers.
Is Afterpay really interest-free?
Yes, Afterpay is interest-free when you pay in 4 installments. If a payment is missed, a late fee is incurred, and you won't be able to make new purchases until your account is up to date.
How can I increase my spending limits?
Spending limits start low, around $600, and increase over time with on-time payments. New customers have lower limits which can grow with a good repayment history. Afterpay assesses your ability to repay before each transaction. Consistent on-time payments can lead to higher spending limits.
Is Afterpay secure and safe to use?
Your security is a priority. Afterpay uses various security features, including transaction monitoring, multi-factor authentication, and encryption. Customers and merchants undergo a screening process to ensure safety. For more information, visit Afterpay's safety and security page.
